We Don’t Know The End From The Beginning

Wouldn’t it be nice if we can know the end of each path that we take in life from the beginning, before we even set foot on that path?  But the fact is that we don’t.

Take the case of a Western tourist who visited a third world country.  He wanted to go to some tourist attraction in that country.  But it was located far away, in rough and tough terrains.  As he made his way to the local bus terminal to catch a bus to his destination, he found out that he had a choice of 3 classes of seats – first, second and third class.  He immidiately paid for the most expensive seat – first class – without the slightest hesitation.

When it came to boarding time, he discovered to his shock that there was no special seating for first class passengers.  In fact, every passenger, regardless of class of travel, was entitled to free seating.  And there was no aircon comfort for first class passengers either. In fact it seems that there was no difference between the various classes of seats.

He began to feel rather stupid for buying a first class ticket.  But then the bus arrived at the foot of a rather steep incline in the road.  The driver stopped his bus and makes this announcement:

“Ladies and gentlemen, the engine of this bus is too old and it won’t have enough power to pull us to the top.  All first class passengers please remain seated.  Second class passengers please disembark and walk to the top of this steep incline and wait there for me to arrive.  Third class passengers please disembark and push the bus to the top”.

So now let’s think about it further.  Can the future be known with certainty?  If so, who can know it? The fortune teller?  The geomancer?  The ancient witch doctor? The bomoh? But the fact is that all these are known to have made wrong predictions concerning future events.  If the future can be known with certainty and accuracy, then the person who knows the end from the beginning must be all-knowing and all-wise.  Who is he?
