War On Terror – Next Wave Of “Body Bombers”

Al-Qaeda is busy perfectly its “body bombers”.  Remember Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the Yemen trained al-Qaeda operative?  He tried to blow up Delta (Northwest) Flight 253 from Amsterdam to Detroit last Christmas with a compound called pentaerythritol tetranitrate, better known as PETN packed in a soft plastic container (possibly a condom) hidden in his groin.  To set off an explosion, he had to inject a chemical into this PETN.  But something went wrong, and the result was that Umar Farouk Abdumutallab got himself badly burnt in the groin and legs when his trousers caught fire.

In August last year, during Ramadan, a Saudi al-Qaeda militant operating from Yemen failed in his attempt to assassinate Saudi Arabia’s head of counterterrorism, Prince Mohammed bin Nayef with PETN, plus a detonator inside his rectum. The bomb was initiated by an electronic signal from a cell phone. 

Then again in December 2001, British shoe bomber Richard Reid also known as Abdul Raheem and as Tariq Raja, tried in vain to blow up American Airlines Flight 63 from Paris to Miami with PETN and a triacetone triperoxide (TATP) detonator hidden in the lining of his shoe. 

These are all suicide bombers belonging to international terrorist group al-Qaeda.  They use their bodies as bombers.  It seems that al-Qaeda is keeping faith with PETN.  But with airport security now getting stricter with full body scanners in operation, al-Qaeda has come up with a new plan to deploy its “body bombers”.

A recent press report said that Britain’s MI5 has received intelligence reports that al-Qaeda is planning to surgically insert PETN into the bodies of its “body bombers”.  It seems  that male bombers would have the explosive secreted near their appendix or in their buttocks, while females would have the material placed inside their breasts in the same way as figure-enhancing implants.

The  PETN would be placed in a plastic sachet inside the bomber’s body before the wound was stitched up like a normal operation incision.  The explosives would be detonated by the bomber using a hypodermic syringe to inject TATP (Triacetone Triperoxide) through their skin into the explosives sachet.  To avoid suspicions,  the “body bombers” could pretend to be diabetics injecting themselves on airliners, trains or buses in order to prevent anyone stopping their suicide missions.

Think about it.  Will al-Qaeda succeed this time?  Why do these terrorist groups want to kill innocent people?  Why in the first place do they want to die themselves by becoming suicide body bombers?  Do they have a choice?  What induce them to choose the path of violence?  And why all these acts of terrorism in the name of religion?  Why drag religion into what is essentially a political or more correctly, a terrorist problem?
