If you are wondering what is Lubna Ahmed al-Hussein (that former journalist who last worked for the UN Mission in Sudan) doing nowadays, here is an update. Lubna Ahmed al-Hussein became a celebrity of sort when she was arrested along with other women at a restuarant for wearing trousers. She was charged under Article 152 of the Sudanese criminal [...] Malaysian model Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno who was sentenced to a fine and 6 strokes of the cane under Syariah law for drinking alcohol in public is all set to go through the caning after the end of Ramadan. Apparently feeling the stress of having too many meetings and various advices from individuals, politicians, government organisations and [...] So the verdict is out. A court in Khartoum has fined Lubna Ahmed al-Hussein 500 Sudanese pounds (approximately US$200) for wearing ”indecent” trousers. She was not given any lashing of the cane. However the court also ruled that if Lubna Ahmed al-Hussein does not pay the fine, she will have to serve a prison term of one [...] September 7 – that’s the date everyone who is following Lubna Ahmed al-Hussein case in Sudan will be watching out for. Lubna Hussein has a date with a court in Khartoum – the third time – which is hearing a charge against her for indecent dressing in public under Article 152 of the Sudanese criminal laws. [...] |
