Eversince High Court Judge Lau Bee Lan ruled on New Year’s Eve that the Roman Catholic newspaper, The Herald, can use the word “Allah” in its publication because it is not exclusive to Islam, the stand taken by the Government is that the word “Allah” belongs exclusively to Islam in the Malaysian context. Barely a week ago, [...] By now you must have known that High Court Judge Lau Bee Lan has released her written judgment in allowing the Roman Catholic newspaper, The Herald, to use the word “Allah” in its publication. The Allah ruling on New Year’s Eve has polarized the Muslim community in Malaysia. Now there is an added controversy – to go ahead [...] After staring eyeball to eyeball with the Christian community over the Allah ruling by High Court Judge Lau Bee Lan, it was the Malaysian Government that blinked first. In an interview with East Malaysian press, including The Borneo Post, Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said: “Christians in Sarawak and Sabah [...] So what is the reaction to the call to Christians in Malaysia to drop the usage of the word “Allah”?
