Somalia – 112 Year Old Man Marries 17 Year Old Girl

What do you say to a 112-year old man who has already outlived 3 of his 5 wives, and who has 13 children, the oldest of whom is 80-year old?  Ahmed Muhamed Dore of central Somalia has 114 children and grandchildren. Most people will tell Ahmed Muhamed Dore to enjoy life with his grandchildren. But the 112-year old Ahmed Muhamed Dore has other ideas.  He just married a 17-year old teenager, Safia Abdulleh.

Speaking after his wedding, which was attended by hundreds of people, Ahmed Muhamed Dore said: “Today God helped me realise my dream.”  And what is his dream?  To have more children with his new wife.

Both Ahmed Muhamed Dore and Safia Abdulleh come from the same village in Somalia.  He has apparently taken notice of her earlier. He said that he had waited for her to grow up so he could propose to her.

How did Ahmed Muhamed Dore manage to get Safia Abdulleh to accept his proposal?  Afterall, she is young enough to be his great great grand daughter.  Said Ahmed Muhamed Dore: “I didn’t force her, but used my experience to convince her of my love; and then we agreed to marry.”

How did the guests at the wedding react?  Some were concerned about the age gap.  Others felt happy that age was no barrier.  But they all agreed that this marriage is valid under Islamic law.

Perhaps the last word should go to Ahmed Muhamed Dore.  He said: “It is a blessing to have someone you love to take care of you.”

Think about it.  Does age gap matter in marriage?  Why does Ahmed Muhamed Dore, who is already 112 years of age, want to take a new wife?  Why does he want new children when he is so old already?  And why does a teenager willingly want to be the wife of a 112-year old man?
