Should John Terry Resign As England Captain? So now that the world knows all about John Terry and his alleged affair with Vanessa Perroncel, the question is whether he should remain as captain of the England soccer team. John Terry is said to be contemplating stepping down, but he may be inclined to stay put if the outcome of a recent poll is to be believed. ITV commissioned a YouGov poll on February 1 to guage the public response to the alleged affair between John Terry and Vanessa Perroncel. Here is the result of that poll. Of the 808 adults polled, 46 per cent said John Terry should give up being captain of the England team while 40 per cent said he should stay on. The remaining respondents presumably had no opinion on whether John Terry stays or goes. But more interesting is that 51 percent of the men polled says John Terry should resign but only 41 percent of women polled thinks likewise. So what does this mean? Are women for forgiving of John Terry’s alleged affair with Vanessa Perroncel than men? If so, does it mean that wife Toni Poole may just forgive John Terry? According to an unnamed friend of Toni Poole, she has indeed agreed to give John Terry one more chance – with condition. Said the friend: “Toni’s given him the benefit of the doubt. John Terry insists it was a silly fling and didn’t mean anything. She’s chosen to believe his version rather than what everyone else is telling her. Frankly, she’s been through all this before but not as bad as this. But if he steps out of line again she will throw him out and make sure he has as little contact with his kids as possible.” It seems that John Terry loves the twin children – Georgie John and Summer Rose, and hopefully the threat of little contact with them will keep John Terry in line from here on. But just in case it doesn’t, Toni Poole is said to have engaged divorce lawyer Fiona Shackleton – who represented Prince Charles, Madonna and Sir Paul McCartney. Toni Poole has been hurt badly. Said the friend: “Toni has also told him that she doesn’t want him speaking publicly about it and if there is any apologising to be done, it will be to her.” But back to the question: Should John Terry resign as captain of England soccer team? Actually he may have no choice. The decision lies with England manager Fabio Capello who may decide very soon whether to sack him or not.
