Saudi Arabia – Man Sentenced To Death Over Sex Slavery

The story began 4 years ago at the Saudi city of Madinah.  There, outside the Prophet ‘s Mosque, a female customer by the name of Jamalat had just purchased some clothes, but she discovered that she did not have any money with her. So she persuaded the vendor to let her bring 10-year old Raziah (the vendor’s daughter) to her hotel room to collect the money.

But instead of going to the hotel room, Jamalat took her to her brother’s house.  Now brother Muhammad Al-Junaidi is an Egyptian with 3 wives. And he was eyeing Raziah, an Afghan girl, to be his fourth wife. So brother and sister hedged this plot to kidnap Raziah, change her name to Duaa, and smuggle her to Egypt.

But they did not bring Raziah to Egypt for 4 years, until Raziah had turned 14 years old. So for 4 years, Raziah was kept a prisoner in Muhammad Al-Junaidi’s house. She became a sex slave to Muhammad Al Junaidi who sexually exploited her all this while.

Before they could smuggle Raziah out of Saudi Arabia into Egypt, they were arrested by Saudi police earlier this year.  Now a court in Madinah has charged Muhammad Al-Junaidi, his 3 wives, and his sister Jamalat with kidnapping, imprisoning and sexually exploiting a minor.

Judge Abdul Mohsen Al-Qasim has just sentenced Muhammad Al-Junaidi and his sister Jamalat to death by beheading. Jail sentences were passed on Muhammad Al-Junaidi’s 3 wives.  First wife Fatimah got 10 years prison term, while second and third wives Merfat and Zainab each received 1 year jail sentence.  Additionally, Merfat and Zainab were also given 500 lashes of the cane each.

Commenting on the judgment, Raziah said: “The court has handed them a fitting punishment.”  She was still feeling sore about her kidnapping. She said: “I will never forgive Junaidi and his wives for torturing me physically and mentally.”

And what does Raziah want to do now that she has regained her freedom? Her answer? To resume her education.

And what does Raziah’s father think of the judgment?  Raziah’s father, Abdul Rauf Afghani said: “I always believed that Saudi courts would do justice for us. The present judgment is only fair.”  Daughter Raziah said that this judgment would help her father and brothers to regain their badly damaged reputation.

Ibrahim Al-Damrani, former husband of Jamalat, said that she deserved the capital punishment for her cruelty to an innocent child. It seems that Jamalat had smuggled their 2 daughters using forged papers out of Egypt to Madinah 7 years ago when the marriage ended.

Think about it.  The lust of one man for a child bride caused his entire family to be punished.  Is this worth it?  And did the fact that Jamalat had done this before (smuggling people out of country) made her overconfident?  Why do people want to marry young children?  Could it be that they wanted them to be their sex slaves?  Are children/girls being exploited?
