“Don’t Just Talk”
Cut Tari spent 8 hours on Monday at the National Police headquarters to categorically deny being the woman in the sex video with ex-boyfriend Nazril Irham aka Ariel from the pop band, Peterpan (now called Peterporn in cyberspace). Ariel and current girlfriend Luna Maya did not turn up for the police appointment, but they too had an opportunity to deny categorically on national TV last Monday that they were the couple shown in the sex videos in cyberspace. They did not do so. Now Ariel and Luna Maya have another opportunity, this time on international TV. And a cabinet minister has asked Ariel and Luna Maya to not just talk, but to make a firm statement. The world is waiting to hear on CNN whether Ariel and Luna Maya will deny their involvement in the pornographic videos, or will they admit it and do their mea culpa?
After TV One, Now CNN Beckons
Ariel and Luna Maya are getting famous, or rather infamous, internationally. The New York Times has picked up the story of their alleged sex videos, and so has other international media. Now CNN has lined up to interview Ariel and Luna Maya as well. OC Kaligis, attorney for Luna Maya said: “She is willing to talk to CNN.” OC Kaligis added that Luna Maya will also appear on Metro TV. It is not known when these interviews will take place. Luna Maya is also an ambassador for the UN World Food Program.
Make A Firm Statement
Referring to last Monday’s interview shown on TV One in which neither Ariel nor Luna Maya make any categorical statement on whether they were the couple seen in the sex videos, Information and Communication Minister Tifatul Sembiring has this advice for Ariel and Luna Maya. He said: “They must not only talk, but provide solid proofs that they are not the ones depicted in the video.” Why is this necessary? Minister Tifatul Sembiring explains that as long as Ariel and Luna Maya choose to remain silent or ambiguous, or they fail to provide proof to rebut presumptions of their involvement in the pornographic videos, then public scrutiny on them would continue. Therefore they must not just talk, but they must provide a firm statement.
Did Ariel Lose His Laptop?
Meanwhile doubts are surfacing as to whether Ariel did lose his laptop computer (and the harddisk that contains the sex videos). The alleged theft was told by security officer Dede at the house where Ariel was staying when he was still married to his former wife, Sarah Amalia. Dede told Metro TV that there was indeed a burglary at Ariel’s house one evening some time last year. The house is situated on Jalan Tanjung Asri in Bandung. The burglar smashed the window of Ariel’s car parked in front of the house and stole a laptop (and the harddisk) and other electronic appliances. But Dede could not remember the date or the time of the alleged theft. Bandung Police have, however, denied that there were any reports made of a burglary at Ariel’s home, or any house on Jalan Tanjung Asri.
Mojokerto Follows Bandung’s Lead In Banning Ariel, Luna Maya And Cut Tari
On Monday, the municipal government of Bandung said that it had banned Ariel, Luna Maya and Cut Tari from performing in the city. A day later, Mojokerto followed suit. Abdul Ghani Suhartono, head of Mojokerto said: “Any events held in Mojokerto featuring Ariel, Luna or Cut Tari will be banned.”
Reaction From Ariel And Luna Maya
Afrian Bondjol, lawyer for Ariel and Luna Maya said: “The ban shocks all of us.” Why? Afrian Bondjol explained: “It means they have decided that my clients are guilty. Officials should understand the law better and must uphold the assumption of innocence principle.” Asked how Ariel and Luna Maya are coping with the situation, Afrian Bondjol said: “They are in a good condition but they are utterly shocked. They had no idea people would be so mean to them.”
Reaction From Golkar Party
Tantowi Yahya, a legislator from the Golkar Party said that the action of Indonesians to this sex scandal involving Ariel, Luna Maya and Cut Tari shows their hypocrisy. Tantowi Yahya said: “We condemn them for breaking our norms, yet at the same time we also enjoy the videos. The proof that we also enjoy the videos is evident in the fact that the DVDs can be easily bought in Glodok.”
Reaction From Maria Ozawa aka Miyabi
Maria Ozawa, popularly known as Miyabi, has been dethroned as Indonesia’s most popular porn star, thanks to the intense local and international interest on Luna Maya following the mysterious release of the sex videos in cyberspace. Like Miyabi, Luna Maya is also of mixed parentage, being half Western. Miyabi twittered recently: “Guys, after 2 day search on the web, today I got the real video of peterporn ? Many thanks for my follower in indonesia who give the link.”
So what did Miyabi has to say after viewing the sex videos? Miyabi was diplomatic in her reply, being protective perhaps of a fellow porn star. Miyabi said: “So many mentions asking me about peterporn, sorry I cant answer for that, because I have quote “don’t judge the book from the cover.”
Think About It
Did Ariel lose his laptop computer with the harddisk containing pornographic videos to burglars who upload them to cyberspace? Bandung police don’t think so. Is this why the National Police are investigating whether the people in the sex videos are responsible themselves for causing the sex tapes to be uploaded in cyberspace? And if indeed Ariel and Luna Maya are appearing on CNN, will they make a “firm statement” as advised by Minister Tifatul Sembiring? If they do, and if they confirm that they were the ones shown in the sex videos, where will this admission leave Cut Tari who has denied appearing with Ariel in another video? But in any event, is Tantowi Yahya right in saying that the way the sex video DVDs are snatched up in Indonesia shows the true color of Indonesians, which is one of hypocrisy – condemning the porn stars while buying the DVDs?
