Have You Been Thinking Of Your Own Death?

The subject of death does not seem to want to go away. Death is no respecter of persons – everyone must die one day.  Michael Jackson’s sudden death may make some to ponder over the timing and nature of their own death in the future.  Perhaps you have been thinking of your own death?

Will it be a sudden death like Michael Jackson?  Or will it be a death due to illness, like Farrah Facwett? Or perhaps it may be a violent death like the former NFL superstar Steve McNair who died of 4 gunshots wounds. Or will death take the form of a suicide? Maybe a fiery death, like my former  business associate who died in WTC during 9/11?  Or a watery death, like a former colleague who died in Thailand during Christmas of 2004 when a tsunami hit her vacation place?

At what age will you die?  Again nobody knows for sure.  But think about it. Michael Jackson died at age of 50.  Robert McNamara just died at age 93. What do you think is the number of years you have left on this earth? It may be shorter than you think.

How will people remember you after death?  A pop idol like Michael Jackson? The architect of the Vietnam War like Robert McNamara? Charlie’s Angel like Farrah Facwett? A famous NFL quarterback like Steve McNair? Or maybe they don’t remember you at all.

What kind of funeral will you have?  One befitting the king of pop like Michael Jackson?  Perhaps a state funeral? Or a quiet one. Or perhaps you want to record your own eulogy for your funeral?

Death is certain.  Life is uncertain.  But where will you be after life has ended, and death has occured?  Is death really the end of life?  What if there is life after death?  Where will your next destination be?  Have you been thinking about your own death?

IT IS NOT DEATH TO DIE

It is not Death to die, to leave this weary road,
and join the saints who dwell on high,
who’ve found their home with God.
It is not death to close the eyes long dimmed by tears,
and wake in joy before your throne,
    delivered from our fears.

    O Jesus, conquering the grave,
your precious blood has power to save.
Those who trust in you will in your mercy find
that it is not death to die.

It is not death to fling aside this earthly dust,
and rise with strong and noble wing
    to live among the just.
It is not death to hear the key unlock the door
that sets us free from mortal years
    to praise forever more.

    O Jesus, conquering the grave,
your precious blood has power to save.
Those who trust in you will in your mercy find
that it is not death to die.
