So Wayne Bridge refused to shake hands with John Terry when they met on the soccer field in which Wayne Bridge’s Manchester City defeated John Terry’s Chelsea 4-2. As if that’s not enough misery for John Terry, England manager Fabio Capello told a newspaper that as long as he is in charge, John Terry won’t be the captain of the England team in this year’s FIFA World Cup Finals competiton in South Africa.
John Terry used to be best friend and former colleague and neighbor with Wayne Bridge while Toni Poole, John Terry’s wife, used to be best friend with Vanessa Perroncel, Wayne Bridge’s girlfriend and mother of his son. But later John Terry allegedly had an affair with Vanessa Perroncel.
Fabio Capello said: ”As long as I am England manager, I don’t think John Terry will be captain again. The problem between John Terry and Wayne Bridge was not good and that is the only reason he is no longer captain. I expect my captain to be responsible to children and for the fans. I told him all of this.”
When Fabio Capello told John Terry that he has lost the England captaincy, John Terry told the press: “It hurts so much, but I will fight back. I think I could return as captain once the dust settles and the heat is taken out of the situation. I have fought all my life and I’m not going to stop now. If there’s a one per cent chance of being World Cup captain, I will fight for it tooth and nail. There is every reason for me to fight to get the armband back.”
Well, if Fabio Capello meant what he said, then there is now no way for John Terry to regain the England captaincy. But the question is, has Fabio Capello lost faith in John Terry as a player?
The answer is No. Fabio Capello said: ”I have asked Terry to be the same as before because he is a leader, but the situation with Bridge was not good. When I spoke with Terry, he understood everything. I know exactly what happened. Terry is a leader of men, even without the armband. I hope this is the end of the problem because it is not good for the fans or the players. The spirit of the group remains the same. I’m not interested in this problem any more and my only concern now is that the best players are fit.”
But Wayne Bridge has decided to withdraw from the England team. And
Fabio Capello said: “I have opened the door for other players and the door is open in the future for Wayne. He knows he can change his mind. He has a different vision to me, but it’s Wayne Bridge’s life. He thinks it’s better for him to stay out of the team and he has given us his reasons. It’s the decision of the player, not mine. It’s the opinion of the player that we are better off without him, but he could have been in the squad without a problem.”
Then Fabio Capello added: “In my opinion the decision was not in the best interests of the squad, but he could be with us next time.”
But Fabio Capello has other problems as well. Chelsea player Ashley Cole is in the news lately, being exposed by the press for his infidelity. Wife Cheryl Cole has already told Ashley to get out of her life as 5 women came forward to claim sexual relationship with Ashley. Ashley Cole is on the injured list and is undergoing medical treatment at the moment.
Fabio Capello stressed the importance of being good role model. Referring to John Terry and Ashley Cole’s problem he said: “The younger children look to these players like an example for life. For that reason you have to understand that everything that these players make on their personal life is not a good example for children.”
Meanwhile, Fabio Capello is also not pleased with another Chelsea player. He said that Joe Cole is in grave danger of missing the World Cup finals because of his poor form.
Think about it. If Fabio Capello believes that John Terry and Ashley Cole are bad role models for children, young people and fans, then why not just drop them from the England team? Is it because both of them are difficult to replace? And some people are saying that John Terry should be the one to leave the England team instead of Wayne Bridge. Should he? Fabio Capello said that the only reason John Terry is not captain of England team is because of the problem between John Terry and Wayne Bridge. Does it mean that if this problem is resolved, John Terry could conceivably become captain of England team again, notwithstanding Fabio Capello’s comment to the contrary?
