Have you noticed that earthquakes are increasing in frequency nowadays? The latest one happens today. It occurred in Indonesia, in the sea under the Indian Ocean approximately 110 kilometers (70 miles) southwest of the city of Padang. The undersea earthquake measured 6.7 magnitude and two aftershocks with magnitudes of 5.2 and 5.6 followed within the hour.
Indonesia was in the news in December 2004 when on Boxing Day that year, a powerful undersea quake off western Indonesia caused a powerful tsunami that eventually killed just under a quarter million people in several countries.
Indonesia sits in an area known as the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, and is prone to earthquakes. Japan is another country that is earthquake prone. Statistics show that Japan is struck by approximately 20% of the world’s earthquakes measuring magnitude 6 or higher. Over a 4-day period this week, Japan was struck by 3 earthquakes!
If you do some research you will see that in the last week, there were several earthquakes elsewhere as well, ranging from southern California, Puerto Rico region, Alaska region, Philippines region, Andaman Islands region, etc.
Think about it. What will happen to the world if earthquakes – in land and undersea – keep increasing in frequecy and in magnitude? Will planet earth be destroyed by flood waters? If countries around the Pacific “Ring of Fire” experience powerful earthquakes all around the same time, and tsunamis after tsunamis hit these countries, will there be a global flood? Will animal and human life be wiped out? What can we expect when we see earthquakes increasing in frequency?

An earthquake which is also known as a tremor or temblor is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth’s crust that creates seismic waves. Earthquakes are recorded with a seismometer, also known as a seismograph.
We don’t need to panic when there’s an earthquake, all we have to do is to calm down and solemnly pray. The best way to do is to go under the table or under any strong place.
Earthquake can also creates Tsunami, that’s why we really need to observe what’s happening in the place wherw we are. We need to stay away from beaches.
