Bitterness is an unprofitable servant. It is like the clouds that promise water to a drought-stricken land but pass over, leaving the environment they overshadowed parched and desolate, with the inhabitants sick of heart because of hope deferred….
Bitterness is inebriated with a strong drink of pride. It promises sweet delicacies, but once consumed, is full of gall….
Many have been troubled in their hearts and have become defiled in body, soul and spirit because of the root of bitterness that has sprung up unnoticed and unrecognized in the luxuriant gardens of hope, grace and blessing, until the weed of bitterness has caused such extensive destruction that the garden is damaged beyond repair and cannot be restored to its original beauty, though it be sought carefully with tears.
