Answering Difficult Questions

On November 27, 1982, I asked a very important question. In fact up to this point in my life it was one of the most important questions I ever asked. It was a question that contained no more than 4 words. Yet the answer to that simple question would shape the rest of my life, greatly impacting my future and the future of others. The question was of such magnitude that it took months of contemplation to muster up the courage to ask it. When I finally asked Lisa to marry me, she replied with a confident and clear, ‘yes,’ I was certainly glad. Now, nearly 27 years later I can look back and say, ‘that was a good question and Lisa gave a good answer.’

There are questions in life that are more important than others. ‘What we will wear and what will we eat?’ Are not as important as ‘What will I do in life and who will I marry?’ Yet every question is important to the one asking, whether it be a child who continually asks, ‘why, why, why.’ Or the student who asks, ‘why I am I here and what is the purpose of my life?’

Everyone has question, especially about life, death, God and eternity. A recent survey was done by ‘USA Today’ and they posed this question to its readers, “What would adults ask God or a supreme being if they could get a direct answer?” 34% responded with the question, “What is my purpose here?” 19% would ask, “Will I have life after death?” 6% would ask, “How long will I live?”

Like these there are many people who have honest questions that need honest answers. Often times it is just one unanswered question that keeps people from knowing and accepting Christ. It is for this reason that each of us must be ready and prepared to answer the questions people ask. Beginning tomorrow we will answer some of the big questions of life.
